A United Airlines flight headed to Minneapolis was diverted to Madison due to an unruly passenger the evening of May 29. Law enforcement restrained and handcuffed the passenger on the flight. There were no injuries, a Dane County Regional Airport spokesperson said in an email.
The flight took off from the Chicago O’Hare International Airport about 8 p.m. and headed to the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport.
The passenger caused United Airlines Flight 2005 to divert its flight path to the Dane County Regional Airport, where it landed safely at about 9:30 p.m., flight records show.
The FBI was notified of the incident at 9 p.m., according to a May 30 statement from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
Dane County sheriff’s deputies met the flight when it landed and detained the 75-year-old male passenger. The sheriff’s office says the passenger appeared “confused” and in a mental health crisis. The passenger’s family in Minnesota is traveling to Madison to reunite with him.
FBI Milwaukee’s Madison Resident Agency advised no criminal charges were being pursued. This agency is handling the ongoing investigation.
