Officials identify Wisconsin Rapids teen killed in July 5 Portage County crash

GRANT − Portage County officials have identified an 18-year-old man who died from injuries he suffered in a July 5 car crash.

Stephan Hill, of Wisconsin Rapids, was a passenger in the front seat of a pickup that was going east on Evergreen Avenue in the Portage County town of Grant, according to a Portage County Sheriff’s Office news release. The driver, a 17-year-old Wisconsin Rapids boy, lost control of the pickup, hit an embankment, and the vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof.

Hill and the 17-year-old driver both were ejected from the pickup. A 17-year-old boy and 18-year-old woman who were in the backseat were both uninjured, according to the news release.

Hill attended Lincoln High School until the spring of 2024, the school confirmed. He was outgoing and endlessly funny, according to his obituary. Hill always knew how to bring joy and laughter to his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, disc golf and playing video games with his friends, his obituary said.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
