Nets, Day'Ron Sharpe intend to agree to 2-year, $12 million deal

Brooklyn Nets center Day’Ron Sharpe came into the 2025 NBA offseason as one of the better centers available on the free-agent market as a restricted free-agent. Brooklyn has been basing their center rotation over the past few seasons with Nic Claxton as the starter and Sharpe as the backup and it seems like that framework will continue moving forward.

Per HoopsHype NBA insider Michael Scotto, the Nets intend to sign Sharpe to a two-year, $12 million contract when free-agency officially begins at 6 PM ET on Monday. Scotto noted in his post on X that the second year of the deal is a team option so Sharpe is essentially in the same position as forward Ziaire Williams in terms of using next season to prove he deserves to stick around for the long-term.

Earlier on Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Williams was signed to the same kind of deal with NBA salary cap expert Yossi Gozlan stating that he would have veto rights in any trade. For Sharpe, the details of whether he also has veto rights are unknown at the time of this writing, but it seems that Sharpe should be able to prove that he should remain in Brooklyn for the future.

Sharpe, 23, had his best season in his four-year career in the NBA since being taken with the 29th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of North Carolina. Sharpe played in 50 games, averaging 7.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 52.1% from the field and and 75.7% from the free-throw line in just 18.1 minutes per game.

Given Sharpe’s work ethic, the Nets are reportedly bringing him to Brooklyn at a value, even as a backup to Nic Claxton moving forward because Sharpe is still trying to improve as an all-around player.

“I feel like I’m just scratching the surface. I’ve got a lot more in my game that a lot of people don’t know. I’ve shown I can rebound with effort and strength. I feel like I’ve got a complete game that I’m working on tightening up,” Sharpe said in an interview with Scotto earlier this offseason.
