The president and chief executive officer of the Rochester Museum & Science Center announced Tuesday she will leave her post this summer.
RMSC’s President and CEO Hillary Olson will leave Rochester in June to become the CEO for the Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington, Delaware, according to a news release. She will begin her new role in July as she will replace the longtime executive director who is set to retire in June, according to the Hagley Museum.
Olson led RMSC since 2018 and served as the museum’s seventh president. Museum officials described Olson as a strong leader who led RMSC “through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic” and helped restore museum attendance to pre-pandemic levels, museum officials said.
“I am leaving at a time when the organization is strong, and the future is incredibly bright,” Olson said in a written statement announcing her departure. “I have full confidence in this team, this Board, and in the continued impact of RMSC for all of the people we serve, currently and into the future.”
RMSC’s Board of Trustees and leadership team are creating a plan for the transition. RMSC also includes the Strasenburgh Planetarium on East Avenue and Cumming Nature Center in Ontario County.
The Hagley Museum is located on the banks of the Brandywine River. The 235-acre National Historic Landmark, includes the museum, gardens and Hagley Library.
