Lane restrictions are coming to two of the Lloyd Expressway's busiest intersections

EVANSVILLE – Two of the biggest projects in the ongoing overhaul of the Lloyd Expressway are beginning, bringing numerous lane closures and restrictions with them.

Crews will soon launch changes at Burkhart Road and Cross Pointe Boulevard on the East Side of Evansville. Starting Monday, the right lane of the eastbound Lloyd between Green River Road and Interstate 69 will close, the Indiana Department of Transportation said in a news release.

Right turns onto the Lloyd off northbound Burkhardt Road and Cross Pointe Boulevard will also be blocked.

“The restrictions are to accommodate construction of dual displaced left turns at Burkhardt Road and Cross Pointe Boulevard,” the release states. “Two lanes will always remain open for eastbound travel.”

The displaced left turns will be the same design that was just installed at the intersection of the eastbound Lloyd and Stockwell Road.

The restrictions are expected to remain in place for around four months, the release states. They’ll mark the first of three phases for the projects, with this one stretching into November.

Drivers will see sights that are becoming familiar on the Lloyd: orange barrels, concrete barriers, and slews of construction workers. That, mixed with restricted right turns at two of the Lloyd’s busiest intersections, could slow traffic significantly.

“Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes, anticipate delays, and consider off peak travel times,” the release states.
