There are plenty of top player lists coming out as the college football season approaches, and recently On3 released its top-10 Big Ten quarterbacks which had me wondering where Notre Dame’s star CJ Carr would slot in.
In my eyes he’d be at least No. 3 on their list, behind just Oregon’s Dante Moore and Ohio State’s Julian Sayin. The argument would be with the second spot, as the Duck has the experience over the other two. Sayin and Carr are very similar players, both enter their second-year starting, and are expected to take the next step into superstardom.
If you are just looking at numbers from last season, Sayin has a clear advantage, passing for almost 1,000 more yards, with more touchdowns but a couple more interceptions. However, there is one data point that they both had in common, Miami.
Sayin was solid, passing for 258-yards with a score, but threw two interceptions and was sacked five times. Carr, in his first career start, had 221-yards passing, but two touchdowns and an interception. He was only sacked three times and had a rushing score as well.
For me, this pushes Carr over Sayin to take the No. 2 spot in this hypothetical Big Ten plus Notre Dame quarterback rankings. Where would you put Carr over the rest of the field?
