Oklahoma transfer OF brings 'immense talent' to Texas A&M's lineup

Texas A&M coach Michael Earley entered his second full offseason with plenty of pressure from the Aggie fan base to make significant changes to the coaching staff, starting with replacing second-year pitching coach Jason Kelley, which came to fruition just days after the Aggies fell to USC in the College Station Regional.

After hiring MLB pitching coach/coordinator Barry Enright, former associate head coach and recruiting ace Nolan Cain returned to the staff after two seasons serving in the same capacity with Texas, which was quite the shock given the Longhorns’ success after making it to the College World Series before falling to Georgia.

Set to lose his top three hitters to the 2026 MLB Draft, including Gavin Grahovac and Caden Sorrell, Earley went to work in the transfer portal, adding ten players, led by former Clemson catcher Nate Savoie, who is the No. 2-ranked portal player.

Texas A&M’s latest addition, Oklahoma transfer outfielder Alec Blair, will make his way to College Station after helping the Sooners win a national title last month, as the former blue-chip prospect and dual-sport athlete brings plenty of promise to what looks like an established lineup, even with the departures.

According to D1Baseball’s Joe Healy, Blair is on track to take another step in his development, especially after forcing the coaching staff to place him in the lineup due to his immense talent during his freshman season.

“Blair was a blue-chip recruit to Oklahoma in the 2025 class who was expected to play both basketball and baseball with the Sooners, but after just one game on the hardwood, he focused his attention solely on the diamond, where he batted .247/.320/.376 in 103 plate appearances. He ultimately got squeezed out for playing time in the Oklahoma outfield down the stretch in 2026, though, so now he’s on to Texas A&M to try to make good on his immense talent.”

Blair will immediately compete for a starting spot this fall, and paired with rising sophomore outfielder Jorian Wilson, Texas A&M’s 2027 battling lineup is poised to at least match last season’s production.
