Ohio Congressman Max Miller says he was “run off the road” in Rocky River, near Cleveland, on June 19, by an “unhinged deranged man.”
In a video posted on X, Miller said the man was waving a Palestinian flag and threatened him and his family.
NBC News is reporting that a suspect, Feras S. Hamdan of Westlake, turned himself in to Rocky River police
“Today I was run off the road in Rocky River, and the life of me and my family was threatened by a person who proceeded to show a Palestinian flag before taking off,” Miller said.
Miller is Jewish and pro-Israel.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said Capitol Police are assisting in the investigation.
“What happened to Max this morning is yet another outrageous example of unhinged rhetoric inspiring unstable people to threaten and attack elected officials who are serving their communities,” Johnson said on X. “We must turn down the temperature in this country. The U.S. Capitol Police is engaged with local law enforcement to help handle this case and ensure justice is served.”
Democrats also spoke out against the attack on Miller.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the attack on Congressman Max Miller and his family and are thankful they are safe,” House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York said in a statement.
The incident came just days after the names of several Ohio members of Congress were gathered as evidence connected to the man accused of shooting two Minnesota Democratic state lawmakers on June 14.
Recent incidents that raised alarm over antisemitism and anti-Israel attitudes in the U.S. include a fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy employees in Washington and a Colorado attack that left eight people wounded when a suspect threw incendiary devices into a pro-Israeli crowd.
Incidents raising alarm about anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian prejudice include the fatal stabbing of a 6-year-old Palestinian child in Illinois, the attempted drowning of a 3-year-old Palestinian American girl in Texas and a violent mob attack on pro-Palestinian protesters in California.
Miller previously served in the Trump administration and was elected to Congress in 2022.
