There are few foods as tasty and customizable as a burger. You can grill them in the backyard, grab them at the drive-through, or find them on the menu of most pubs and restaurants in town.
You can top them with cheese and ketchup, or barbecue sauce, or bacon and eggs, or macaroni and cheese. You can make theme burgers, from tacos to pizza to classic. You can choose your rarity, cooking the meat to your liking (assuming, of course, you’re making a classic beef burger — but let’s not forget about turkey or veggie patties).
With so many options to choose from, it’s easy to pick a favorite (or two). So, we asked our readers for nominations on where they fill their burger fix in Holland, then compiled a poll.
Their choice was clear, voting for a longtime favorite spot that abruptly closed in 2020 before returning two years later. Goog’s Pub and Grub took home 36.06% of the votes to earn the win in our poll.
Goog’s, 667 Hastings Ave. in Holland, served up beloved burgers for nearly 20 years before it surprisingly closed in August 2020. Just over two years later, in October 2022, the eatery returned as part of a new mixed-use building on the site of the previous restaurant.
Although the space and menu are smaller than the previous iteration, one thing remains clear through our poll — Holland still loves to get a burger at Goog’s.
Frank’s Restaurant in Zeeland took second place with 16.03% of votes. A staple of downtown Zeeland, Frank’s celebrated 100 years in business in 2024 and continues to serve up fan favorite burgers as part of its menu.
