LIBERTY – Four men were charged with gang assault after a man was beaten unconscious in the Village of Liberty Friday afternoon.
Village police said officers responded to a report of a large fight at the Knights Inn Motel on Route 52 shortly after 2 p.m. Friday.
Responding officers found a 31-year-old man who was unconscious as a result of injuries he received when he was severely beaten in the motel’s parking lot.
The officers gave the man first aid before turning him over to emergency medical services workers. They took him first to Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills in Harris, then transferred him to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown.
Further information on his condition was not immediately available.

Liberty police arrested three men on Friday: Michael Maus, 26, Dante VanDunk, 26 and Richard Olsen, 39, all of Liberty.
A fourth person, Jonathan Nipitella, 43, of Kiamesha Lake, was arrested Monday evening after further investigation.
The men were charged with second-degree gang assault, a felony. They were arraigned in Town of Liberty Court and sent to the Sullivan County jail. Maus is being held in lieu of $75,000 cash bail, $125,000 bond or $300,000 partially secured bond; VanDunk and Olsen are being held in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond or $250,000 partially secured bond each; and Nipitella is being held without bail, pending further court action.
The names of their attorneys were not immediately available.
