For 10 days, NBA rookies and hopefuls are given an uninterrupted chance to prove to their respective front offices why they deserve to be in the Association via the NBA Summer League.
Despite not being offered the chance at a qualifying offer from the Boston Celtics, former Wisconsin Badgers guard John Tonje seems to be making all the right moves.
So far in the 2026 iteration of the Summer League, Tonje has been on fire, leading the Celtics with 60 points. According to Justin Turpin of WEEI, the former Badger star could be under consideration for the Celtics’ final roster spot.
The former second-round pick played in six games last season for the Atlantic Division side, totaling 15 points, six rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
With the Badgers, Tonje was one of the nation’s best scorers. Despite playing just one season in the Big Ten, Tonje averaged 19.6 points and 5.3 rebounds, on a stellar 46.5% field goal rate, eventually being listed on the AP All-American Second Team.
Tonje and the Badgers finished the 2024-25 season with a 27-10 record that was ended thanks to a 91-89 loss at the hands of the BYU Cougars in the round of 32.
