Wisconsin center Nolan Winter is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.
Winter went down with the injury midway through the second half of the Badgers’ blowout win over Maryland on Wednesday. The center had seven points, six rebounds, a steal and a block over 21 minutes of action before leaving the game. Wisconsin had a 63-34 advantage at the time, eventually coasting to a 78-45 triumph.
The junior center is averaging 31.1 minutes, 13.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists through the first 30 games of the season. If he were to miss time, his production would be hard for Wisconsin to replace; Austin Rapp, who averages 21.7 minutes, 9.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, would be the likely next man up at the position.
Wisconsin closes its regular season with a road game at No. 15 Purdue on Saturday. The team will then take the court in the Big Ten Tournament sometime late next week; it is currently positioned as the conference’s No. 6 seed.
The Badgers will need Winter back and fully healthy for them to have any chance at a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
