MANITOWOC – Manitowoc city government leaders have decided to limit the public’s ability to comment on the city’s official Facebook page.
In a post on the “City of Manitowoc” page June 2, the city states: “The city uses social media as a limited public information forum for the sole purpose of informing and educating residents, businesses and visitors about city services, programs, news and events.”
The post went on to say that turning off the ability to comment on city Facebook posts will ensure residents and visitors use methods of communication to reach city staff as quickly as possible.
“This change will allow our team to respond more efficiently through the channels best equipped to assist you,” the post said.
Facebook users will still be able to “Like” posts from the city and share them on their own accounts.
In a post about the city council, in which commenting is still allowed, Branden Berry said, “Turn commenting back on. Your community matters most!”
