Survivor 50 has been getting a lot of publicity for the landmark season with all returning players that left their mark on the game.
But that doesn’t air until next spring. Before then, it’s Survivor 49.
And that season begins tonight, Sept. 24, with 18 people — all new players, including two who will be on season 50 — looking to outwit, outlast and outplay each other in Fiji and become the Sole Survivor.
Host Jeff Probst says the weather in Fiji was especially brutal for the cast this season. Filming took place in the spring.
“Survivor 49 started off with heat,” Probst said in a promotional video. “Heat, heat, heat. It just wears you down. This group was really funny and the funny came from the heat. There was correlation between how hot it was and them kind of losing their minds.”
Probst also said the cast is filled with “players fans can relate to.”
Here’s what to know about how to watch these players on the premiere of “Survivor” season 49:

What season of Survivor are we on?
It’s the 49th season of Survivor and ninth in the “new era.”
Since season 41, which has come post-COVID, seasons have been shorter — 26 days from 39 days — but the castaways have been provided with less resources and more twists, leading to a more frenetic game.
How many years has Survivor been on?
“Survivor” has been on air for 25 years. Season 1 premiered in the summer of 2000 with 16 people looking to survive the elements of a remote area in Borneo, Malaysia, for 39 days while competing in grueling challenges, all while trying to avoid being voted out at tribal councils. Highlighted by Palmyra native Sue Hawk, there were three Wisconsinites on the first season.
Wisconsinite Andrea Boehlke, who currently lives in Milwaukee, has appeared on the show three times, making the jury round each season. She is a TV and podcast host for “Discover Wisconsin” and holds popular “Survivor” watch parties in Milwaukee.
Survivor host Jeff Probst
It’s not “Survivor” without Jeff Probst.
Probst continues to serve as the host of the Emmy Award-winning show, a position he has held every season. Probst also acts as one of the executive producers.
