What home can $350,000 buy? We compared across southeast Wisconsin

The Milwaukee area real estate market is heating up.

Year-over-year home sales in the four-county Milwaukee metro jumped 11% in April, according to a new report from the Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors. It’s the second month in a row that sales rose by double digits.

In an encouraging sign for buyers, total listings jumped 22% in April. But the Milwaukee area is still in need of homes accessible to first-time buyers, GMAR President Mike Ruzicka previously told the Journal Sentinel.

Homes sold for a median price of $370,000 in April, up 2.8% from 12 months ago.

Recent sales in this price range include a Milwaukee ranch home on South 71st Street, which closed for $350,000 on May 12.

Built in 1954, the home spans 1,100 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, according to the listing from Jenna Meza with Mahler Sotheby’s International Realty. The 0.17-acre lot features an insulated 3.5-car garage.

The home includes updated bathrooms, hardwood flooring and an eat-in kitchen. The listing also boasts the property’s proximity to the Kinnickinnic River Parkway.

But what kind of home will $350,000 buy you in elsewhere southeast Wisconsin? Here’s a look at comparable home sales in four other markets, according to Milwaukee Metro Multiple Listing Service data:

Wauwatosa

A 1,200-square-foot Wauwatosa home sold for $350,000 on May 1.

The Cape Cod-style home built in 1936 has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an attached 1.5-car garage, according to the listing from Christopher Clark with Grandview Realty. It sits on a 0.21-acre lot on North 99th Street.

The home includes new stainless steel appliances, granite kitchen countertops and a sunroom. Both the roof and garage received recent updates, according to the listing. The property is located within walking distance of the Milwaukee County Zoo.

Hartford

A 2,000-square-foot Victorian farmhouse in Hartford sold for $350,000 on May 1.

The home, built in 1904, has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, according to the listing from Amy Curler with First Weber Inc. It sits on a 0.23-acre Church Street lot with a two-car garage.

The home features hardwood flooring, a gel-fueled fireplace and a remodeled kitchen with updated appliances, the listing says. The basement includes a bar and entertainment area, while yard features a deck and gazebo.

West Bend

A 1,750-square-foot West Bend home sold for $349,900 on April 30.

The home was built in 1972 with four bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms and detached 3.5-car garage, according to the listing from Jim Emmer with Emmer Real Estate Group. It sits on a 0.21-acre lot on Roosevelt Drive.

The home features hardwood flooring, stainless steel appliances and a lower-level recreation room and bar area. The insulated garage has built-in cabinets and workshop space, according to the listing.

Racine

A Racine home built in 2014 sold for $350,000 on May 15.

The home spans just over 1,700 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, according to the listing from Adam Pischke with Rebelle Realty. It sits on a 0.11-acre lot on Villa Street.

Both of the home’s bathrooms were recently updated, and the backyard features a deck and two-car garage. The property is also located a few blocks from Lake Michigan, according to the listing.
