What fireworks are legal, illegal in Wisconsin?

Which types of fireworks can be purchased without a permit in Wisconsin? State law allows the sale, possession and use of the following without a permit:

In Milwaukee, “any item that emits smoke, a bang, or sparkle” that isn’t part of a professional display is illegal. Violating this rule can result in a $500 to $1,000 fine, according to city ordinance.

Similarly, in the city of Waukesha, nearly all fireworks are illegal, and permits aren’t issued to the general public. Violating this rule can also result in a fine of up to $1,000.
