Jacob Misiorowski will take the ball in Atlanta on Friday, June 19 as two first-place teams collide, with the Milwaukee Brewers facing the National League East-leading Braves.
Misiorowski just delivered the best start in Brewers history in a win over the Philadelphia Phillies on June 12, the crown jewel of a wild eight-start run.
He’s put up some amazing numbers, both in the gem against the Phillies but throughout this season.
Coming of what might not just be the best start in Brewers history but one of the most dominant pitching performances in baseball history, these stats show Misiorowski’s magic this season:
Getting back to Jacob Misiorowski’s June 12 start against the Phillies …
In the 6-0 win, Misiorowski pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout, faced the minimum number of batters and struck out 15 batters in just 95 pitches.
It’s the most strikeouts in a “Maddux” game (fewer than 100 pitches for a complete-game shutout) in Major League Baseball history.
No pitcher had ever done that with 14 strikeouts and only two (Clayton Kershaw and Tarik Skubal) had done it with 13.
Jacob Misiorowski had the first Brewers complete-game since …
Brandon Woodruff on Sept. 11, 2023. Woodruff shut down the Miami Marlins on 106 pitches, a 12-0 win in which he struck out seven and allowed six hits with one walk.
In the past decade, the Brewers only have four complete games: Jimmy Nelson in 2017, Adrian Houser in 2021, Woodruff and Misiorowski. Houser (on Sept. 4, 2021) is the last Brewers pitcher to work nine or more innings and allow zero walks.
Misiorowski is the first Brewers pitcher to work a complete game with double-digit strikeouts since Yovani Gallardo struck out 12 on June 24, 2010, against the Minnesota Twins.
Jacob Misiorowski had the first ‘Maddux’ in Brewers history since …
Kyle Lohse on June 1, 2014. Lohse threw a 93-pitch complete-game shutout against the Chicago Cubs (a 9-0 win) and also had an 89-pitch Maddux against Atlanta in a 4-0 win Sept. 25, 2013.
Misiorowski is only the seventh pitcher (and has one of only 12 instances) to record a Maddux in Brewers history, joining Lohse, Tomo Ohka, Chris Capuano, Chris Bosio, Teddy Higuera and Jaime Navarro.
Lohse is the last Brewers starter to work at least nine innings in fewer than 100 pitches in any circumstance, shutout or otherwise.
Jacob Misiorowski had the most strikeouts in a Brewers game since …
Corbin Burnes on Aug. 11, 2021, when he struck out 15 Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Only one other player has exceeded 15 strikeouts in Brewers history: Ben Sheets, who famously struck out 18 in 2004 against the Braves.
Jacob Misiorowski is the only Brewers starter to ever face the minimum number of batters
Kyle Schwarber’s single was the only baserunner against Misiorowski, and he was erased on a double play.
No Brewers starter has worked a full nine innings in a game and faced the minimum 27 batters.
Jacob Misiorowski’s last eight starts have amounted to a mind-blowing run, comparable to Bob Gibson’s in 1968
Misiorowski’s 80 strikeouts are easily the most for any Brewers pitcher over an eight-start run. He has allowed just 19 hits in that stretch and has a 0.17 ERA, with nine walks and one earned run in 54⅓ innings.
The second-best run was authored by Burnes over the course of late 2020 into early 2021, when he struck out 75 batters in a span of eight outings, allowing five walks, five earned runs and posting a 0.99 ERA.
Since 1913, when earned runs became an official stat, it’s the lowest ERA of any pitcher making eight appearances and racking up at least 48 innings (average of six innings per outing), just ahead of Fernando Valenzuela’s 0.18 over 51 innings from 1980 to 1981.
The ERA is also ahead of Bob Gibson’s best work from the 1968 season, when he had multiple eight-game stretches of 0.25 ERA. In fairness, Gibson racked up 72 innings in those stretches, 18 more than Misiorowski.
At his best, though, Gibson had 66 strikeouts in those runs, to Misiorowski’s 80. Gibson, however, walked only eight batters to Misiorowski’s nine despite more innings.
Did we mention Misiorowski has allowed just one extra-base hit, a double, in his eight-start run? The man who allowed a home run to the first batter he faced in 2026 hasn’t allowed a blast since April 14.
Oh yeah, there’s Jacob Misiorowski’s velocity, too
The 104.5 mph pitch that he uncorked in the first inning for a strikeout Schwarber in his last start is the fastest pitch by a starter in the pitch-tracking era (which began in 2028) and is the fourth-fastest of any pitcher (counting relievers).
Misiorowski has thrown the 23 fastest pitches on record from a starter. His three strikeouts in the first were each 103 mph or faster, making it one of the most overwhelmingly dominant innings imaginable.
Misiorowski then closed his complete-game masterpiece with 103 mph cheese. He reached 103.7 in the final frame, easily the fastest ninth-inning pitch on record from a starter.
Among starters, only Jordan Hicks and Justin Verlander have even reached 103 mph, and Hicks was essentially working as a reliever with the “opener” designation.
The Brewers seldom lose with Jacob Misiorowski or Kyle Harrison on the hill
Milwaukee has won 16 of 17 games in which one of its two ace pitchers have taken the ball, and the one loss was a shocking ninth-inning defeat when San Diego was down to its last strike before rallying to win.
The Brewers have won 10 straight Harrison starts and are 11-2 for the year. The Brewers are 8-5 in Misiorowski starts, though they’ve won five straight and seven of eight.
