Vote for Cellcom Press-Gazette high school girls athlete of the year

The 2025-26 high school season is complete, which means it’s time to vote for some of the top players and teams from the area this past year before the 2026-27 season arrives.

This week is the girls athlete of the year.

Green Bay Notre Dame soccer player Charlee King won the final poll of the school year, receiving 41,150 votes. Notre Dame teammate Serene Adamski finished runner-up with 29,638 votes, while Pulaski goalie Tatum Wentland was third with 21,626 votes.

King is the first athlete this school year to twice be named player of the week and the sixth winner to receive 40,000 or more votes.

She joins the Green Bay Preble trio of Jacob Nuthals, Brooklynn Lucassen and Hannah Von Haden as the only two-time winners in the history of the poll.

You can vote for the Cellcom Press-Gazette high school girls athlete of the year until 3 p.m. June 27. You don’t have to be a subscriber to vote.

Here are the nominees. Be sure to vote in the poll below.

Faye Brunke, Pulaski

One of the best hockey players in the state. The senior forward helped lead the Bay Area Ice Bears to a second consecutive WIAA state championship by scoring three goals and adding an assist in a 5-4 win over St. Croix in the title game.

Brunke finished the season with 25 goals and 25 assists, including five goals in two state games.

She will play at Gustavus Adolphus College this season.

Emma Cunningham, Green Bay Southwest

The golfer of the year in the Fox River Classic Conference shined at the D1 state meet.

The junior had back-to-back rounds of 71 to finish runner-up to Brookfield East’s Payton Haugen.

It was the best finish by a local girl at D1 state since Bay Port’s Jo Baranczyk won her third straight championship in 2021.

Tenley Kuehn, Green Bay Preble

Was a standout two-sport star in volleyball and softball.

Kuehn was a first-team all-conference selection in volleyball as an outside hitter, ranking eighth in the state with 424 kills.

As good as she was, Kuehn will be remembered even more for her softball talent.

The co-player of the year in the FRCC helped lead the Hornets to another conference title and within one win of their first state tournament.

She went 23-1 with a 1.69 ERA, striking out 194 in 153⅓ innings.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay commit also hit .494 with four home runs, 10 doubles and 27 RBI.

Hannah Miller, Kewaunee

Had a memorable final year in both cross-country and track and field.

The senior placed third at the D3 state cross-country meet in November, finishing with a time of 18 minutes, 55.8 seconds. It was the second-best time by a local girl in any of the three divisions.

She made program history in the spring by becoming the first Kewaunee girl to win a state track title after winning the D3 800 championship with a time of 2:11.62.

Miller earned another podium finish in the 1,600, placing fifth in 5:03.42.

Leah Nordin, Shawano

The Wisconsin commit graduated as one of the most decorated basketball players in state history.

She became just the seventh girls player in the state to score at least 2,000 career points and grab at least 1,000 rebounds.

The 6-foot-3 Nordin averaged 26.1 points, 13.1 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 2.6 assists per game as a senior on the way to another Bay Conference player of the year honor.

She recorded a double-double in 20 of 24 games.

Taylor Whiting, Lena wrestling

The senior made history after beating Manitowoc senior Emjay Neumann 10-5 in the 114-pound state title match, becoming the first girl in the five-year history of the tournament to win four state championships.

Whiting went 72-1 in her four seasons, which included one year at Oconto Falls before she transferred to Lena as a sophomore.

Her only loss came to Neumann when the two were freshmen, making her final high school match the perfect end to her career.
