Wisconsin football returns to the field for a must-win game against the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday.
The Badgers are 2-1 entering their Big Ten schedule, with wins over Miami (Ohio) and Middle Tennessee State, and a blowout loss to Alabama. Saturday’s defeat to the Crimson Tide clouds the team’s outlook after those three contests. While it has made significant progress along the defensive front and defending the run, offensive struggles and secondary lapses continue to hold it back from competing with top programs.
That reality makes Saturday’s game against Maryland so critical for Luke Fickell and his team. The contest is arguably the easiest remaining on its schedule. The game precedes five projected ranked matchups (No. 21 Michigan, No. 1 Ohio State, No. 6 Oregon, No. 19 Indiana and No. 9 Illinois), plus tough games against Washington, Iowa and Minnesota. Therefore, Wisconsin’s path to bowl eligibility likely requires a win over the Terrapins.
