A wedding and events organizer has ceased operations in Appleton after less than a year.
Velvet Fox, 501 N. Richmond St., had its last event on June 10. The news was announced on the business’s Facebook page on June 12.
“We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who welcomed us, supported us, attended our events, volunteered their time, partnered with us and helped make Velvet Fox what it became,” the post reads. “From our very first event to our final days, the community embraced us in ways we will never forget. The friendships, memories and experiences created within these walls will remain with us for years to come.”
The business first opened in August inside the historic VFW building, leasing the rental hall from The Tardigrade’s Bookshelf Book Bar. The two businesses occasionally collaborated for functions from weddings to community events.
A big draw for the event organizers was their goal of providing an inclusive, versatile space. Co-owner Chelsie Towns, who owned the Velvet Fox with her husband Chris Routh and her sister Kelsey McDaniel, said in a video on the Facebook post that The Tardigrade’s Bookshelf Book Bar will continue the mission of keeping it a safe space for future events.
“There’s still going to be unique events that you’ve come to know and love from Tardigrade’s Bookshelf and our collaborations,” Towns said in the video.
The post instructs those interested in renting the hall, which can occupy around 150 people, to contact The Tardigrade’s Bookshelf Book Bar.
“While Velvet Fox as an organization is coming to an end, our commitment to this community is not,” the post reads. “Many of our members will continue looking for opportunities to support local organizations, events, and causes whenever possible. Giving back has always been at the heart of what we do, and that spirit will continue beyond our closing.”
