Sturgeon Bay man sentenced after uploading over 300 child porn images

A Sturgeon Bay man was sentenced May 27 to three years in prison and placed on lifetime supervision for possessing child pornography.

Scott Soucek, 57, pleaded no contest March 25 in Door County Circuit Court to three counts of possessing child pornography. Seven additional counts of the same charge were dismissed through his plea agreement.

Soucek returned to court May 27 where Judge David Weber sentenced him to three years in prison followed by three years on extended supervision, according to court records. After he completes his sentence, Soucek will remain under supervision by the Department of Corrections for life as a convicted sex offender.

On March 18, 2025, a Sturgeon Bay police officer identified a Door County suspect uploading and downloading child abuse materials to BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer file sharing network, within the previous month, according to a criminal complaint. Investigators identified the IP address linked to those uploads and downloads as belonging to Soucek.

More than 300 images of child sexual abuse material were uploaded by Soucek’s IP address on March 12, 2025, including depictions of bestiality, according to the complaint.

On July 24, 2025, Sturgeon Bay police officers initiated a traffic stop of Soucek’s vehicle while a search warrant was executed at his home. In the traffic stop, officers said Soucek admitted to using BitTorrent and said he used it to download TV shows and movies. An officer also said Soucek said “his interests in pornography focuses on children and adults aged 15 years” and older.

According to property records, Scott Soucek co-owns a Sturgeon Bay residence with Stephanie Soucek, who is the chair of the Republican Party of Door County and former chair of the 8th Congressional District GOP. A divorce initiated by Stephanie Soucek was finalized in December 2025, according to court records.

Soucek admitted to downloading child pornography in 2009, charges were never filed

While reviewing internal law enforcement records, the officer that identified the 2025 uploads found that Soucek was interviewed by Door County Internet Crimes Against Children investigators in 2009 for uploading child pornography, the complaint said.

On July 15, 2009, an investigator reported that Soucek admitted to downloading child pornography, according to the complaint.

The Sturgeon Bay police officer investigating Soucek in 2025 wrote that “it remains unclear as to why the 2009 case was not referred to the Door County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.”
