SHEBOYGAN – Readers wishing IHOP and Applebee’s would return to Sheboygan could see that come true.
Although a spokesperson with parent company Dine Brands said she couldn’t confirm the location or additional details of a dual-branded Applebee’s and IHOP restaurant coming to the city, the city’s Licensing, Hearings and Public Safety Committee recently approved a liquor license for Apphop Sheboygan, Inc.,for a combined restaurant at the former Applebee’s, 526 S. Taylor Drive.
The dual restaurants — which have been opening quickly in Wisconsin communities, like Manitowoc, Marshfield and Menomonee Falls — offer two dining areas for Applebee’s and IHOP, but they share common areas and kitchen space. Visitors can order boneless wings and pancakes at the same time if they want, as favorite items from both restaurants are offered all day in one menu.
Combined Applebee’s-IHOPs also offer exclusive dishes, like the buffalo chicken omelet and ultimate breakfast burger, along with specialty cocktails, including an espresso martini and Irish coffee.
After facing challenges that no longer made the location economically viable, Sheboygan’s Applebee’s closed in summer 2023 after more than 20 years of business. IHOP opened in summer 1974, according to Sheboygan Press archives, and closed in the early 2000s.
The first combo restaurant opened in the U.S. in Texas at the beginning of 2025. There are 35 dual-branded Applebee’s and IHOP restaurants in the United States, as of a 2026 first-quarter report from Dine Brands.
