Two people died in a two-vehicle crash on May 9, the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department said May 12.
They were identified as Jesse Morales Hernandez, 22, from Kewaunee, and Mary Elliot, 22, of Bayside.
Deputies responded to the crash around 10:25 p.m. May 9 at the intersection of State 29 and Kewaunee County AB in the town of Montpelier.
Based on the sheriff’s department’s initial investigation, Hernandez was driving a motorcycle eastbound on State 29 and collided with a pickup truck that was going northbound on Kewaunee County AB after stopping at the intersection.
The sheriff’s office said Hernandez and Elliot, who was on the motorcycle, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Elliot was a senior at Ripon College, the college shared in a Facebook post. Students gathered on the pool deck at the Wilmore Center at Ripon at May 12 to remember her.
A remembrance station will stay on the pool deck during the week for anyone to leave a message or trinket in her memory.
“Our hearts are with her family, her swimming and diving teammates and coaches, her Alpha Delta Pi sisters and all who knew her,” the college said in a Facebook post.
The crash remains under investigation.
