After years serving Milwaukee as a roving food truck, Cocina Filipina will soon open its first brick-and-mortar on Milwaukee’s near west side.
Cocina Filipina Fare, 3801 W. Vliet St., will host its grand opening Aug. 1 with a block party featuring food and live music.
From 3 to 8 p.m., the restaurant will serve food and beverages from its remodeled space on the corner of North 38th and West Vliet streets and from its food truck parked outside.
There will be music on the newly paved lot across the street from the restaurant, featuring Soul Patrol (3 to 4 p.m.), Los Tejadas (4:20 to 5:20 p.m.), Don & Friends (5:40 to 6:40 p.m.) and Home Going (7 to 8 p.m.).
Owner Marilupe “Lupe” Moreno said Cocina Filipina Fare will offer a limited menu in its first two weeks. The restaurant serves Filipino food through a Latin lens, including lumpia, cucumber salad, egg rolls and rice bowls served with Filipino-style chicken, marinated pork and spicy and sweet chili tofu.
As it expands its menu, expect additions like soups, lechon (roasted suckling pig) longganisa (Filipino sausage) and halo-halo, a Filipino dessert made with shaved ice, evaporated milk and toppings like fruit, jelly and ice cream.
At the grand opening, Filipino dessert pop-up Ube MKE will be serving Filipino-inspired desserts including ube cookies and brownies, and pandan and calamansi bundt cakes.
