One person dies after police chase July 28 ends in Marathon County crash

VILLAGE OF MAINE − One person is dead following a chase that began in Lincoln County and ended with a crash in Marathon County,

At 12:13 p.m. July 28, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office notified the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office of a chase going south on Lincoln County K and entering Marathon County, according to a Marathon County Sheriff’s Office news release. Lincoln County was requesting Marathon County’s assistance.

At about 12:16 p.m., Lincoln County reported to Marathon County Dispatch that the vehicle had crashed near County K and Rainbow Drive in the Marathon County village of Maine. Marathon County deputies responded and approached the vehicle with Lincoln County deputies. Deputies found the lone male occupant dead in the vehicle, according to the news release

The Lincoln and Marathon County sheriff’s offices requested the Wood County Sheriff’s Office investigate the crash. The Portage County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit will help in the investigation, according to the news release.

The deputies involved have been assigned to administrative duties, according to the news release. All of the deputies involved were wearing body cameras and were driving marked squad cars with in-car camera systems.
