OSHKOSH – Six people, including a pair of Oshkosh teenagers, are facing possible criminal charges stemming from a fight at Pollock Pool that escalated into a subsequent gun incident at another residence June 6.
A 20-year-old Oshkosh woman was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon after authorities said she fired a gun in the air during the second altercation.
Oshkosh police said they were also referring five other people, ranging in age from 15 to 53, on various charges including disorderly conduct and physical abuse to a child stemming from the first incident at Pollock Pool.
According to a police news release, a “large physical fight” broke out between adults and juveniles around 4 p.m. when individuals were splashed and hit by a ball as a result of a group playing basketball in the pool.
Authorities claimed an adult pushed a juvenile after being splashed in the face, leading to a fight involving several individuals.
Officers then responded to a gun incident near East Melvin Avenue and North Main Street around 6 p.m., when a gunshot was heard during what was thought to be a continuation of the earlier fight at Pollock Pool.
Police said men and women were physically fighting at the residence’s front lawn, with the 20-year-old Oshkosh woman reportedly firing a gun in the air.
No injuries were reported in connection with the gunshot. Police recovered the gun, and authorities are continuing to investigate both incidents.
“Community spaces, including our parks and pool, are meant to be safe places for everyone to gather and enjoy,” OPD wrote in the release. “Acts of violence and reckless behavior threaten that sense of safety and will not be tolerated.”
