Piggly Wiggly takes top spot for Oshkosh donuts

OSHKOSH – It’s National Donut Day June 5, so naturally we have to go … to Piggly Wiggly?

Dunkin’ Donuts be damned!

Apparently, Oshkosh residents don’t just “shop the Pig” for its meats, considering Northwestern readers voted the Murdock Avenue supermarket as the city’s top spot for donuts.

It wasn’t by a landslide, though, with Piggly Wiggly barely getting the edge on another two locales that haven’t exactly built their brands on pastries — Kwik Trip and Festival Foods.

At least one bakery did stand out in our callout, as several Northwestern readers took a trip down memory lane to name former pastry shop Schoenberger’s as an old community fave.

But don’t take our word for it, here’s what Oshkosh had to say:

Kathu Dutcher

I prefer Kwik Trip donuts. Copps used to be the best, but that is history.

Kim Koeck

Kwik Trip.

Sally Touihri

There’s no place that used to make them like in the ’80s, they used to be delicious. We used to get them at LaFoutains Irving or Schoenberger’s on South Main.

Barbara Dinger-Kamine

Dixie Cream donuts.

Ally Marie

I miss Schoenberger’s!

Stefanie Tyler

Hands down, Piggly Wiggly! The glazed croissants are phenomenal!

Michele Dehn Ubrig

I miss Copps! Remember their huge donut counter in the original building (where Hobby Lobby is now). They made every flavor of donuts! Huge and delicious!

Kristin Goehler

Piggly Wiggly by FAR!!!

Shaunnua Henry-Maierhafer

Dixie Cream Donuts were so good.

Heather Martens

Piggly Wiggly has amazing donuts.

Sandy Schneider Cartwright

Manderfield’s.

Missy Stadtmueller

Schoenberger’s, they were the BEST! I miss that bakery so much! I even worked there back in 1998!

Kyle Robert

Pick ‘n Save. Dunkin’. Piggly Wiggly, all good.

Eric Lehocky

Schoenberger’s donuts were my favorite.

Nancy Decker

If you like an old-fashioned cake donut (even plain), Dunkin Donuts is best. You have to get there early morning, though. The one on Oshkosh Avenue usually has them.

Laurie Ann Quinn

I like Festival’s Boston cream donuts.

Donald Holdren

Ray’s Donuts and the best Cakes.

Marsha Mack Anick Clark

My favorite is actually Walmart! So soft and fluffy and not overloaded with glaze!

Samantha Cline

Let’s be simple, people: Kwik Trip glazers.

Mark Wachholz

Kwik Trip Persian donuts.

Ryan Solo Johnson

Probably Pick ‘n Save now.

Betsy LaFontaine

Piggly Wiggly, best tasting frosting. Wide selection!!

Chris DuVall

Festival’s are pretty good for a chain store.

Heidi Lynn

Piggly Wiggly now, but was Schoenberger’s!

Jerrod King

King’s Donuts.

Julie Lynn Nast

Bring back Schoenberger’s!

Christa Hopp

In Oshkosh, it’s definitely the Mineshaft. Festival is pretty much OK, too.

Kenny Matschi

Festival Foods.
