A pedestrian died after being struck by a car on Interstate 43 in the early morning hours of July 8, the second fatal pedestrian crash of the night.
The crash occurred around 12:04 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-43 at the Capitol Drive off-ramp, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
The interstate was fully closed for hours between the Keefe Avenue and Capitol Drive off-ramps as sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
All lanes reopened at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation said.
The sheriff’s office said the cause of the crash is under investigation. The office has not yet publicly identified the victim.
Another fatal pedestrian crash occurred earlier in the night, around 10:30 p.m. July 7. A 47-year-old died after they were struck by a car on the 2200 block of West National Avenue while attempting to cross the street, police said.
Police said the driver in that incident did not stop or return to the scene.
