Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers are searching for a new special teams coordinator, and a Super Bowl champion assistant is on the interview list. According to Bill Huber of Packers on SI, LaFleur is moving onto in-person interviews, and Seattle Seahawks assistant special teams coach Devin Fitzsimmons was on the original interview list.
Fitzsimmons has 11 years of experience as an assistant on special teams at the NFL level, including the last two seasons with the Seahawks. In 2025, Seattle returned two punts and a kickoff for a touchdown during the regular season, veteran kicker Jason Myers made 41 of 48 field goal attempts and punter Michael Dickson was a second-team All-Pro. The Seahawks ranked third in the NFL in special teams DVOA. Seattle also had an elite special teams grade at PFF and finished third in Packers on SI’s special teams rankings.
It’s possible Fitzsimmons is ready, after two seasons working under Jay Harbaugh in Seattle, to run his own special teams group in Green Bay. Fitzsimmons also worked under Jeff Rodgers in Arizona, Chris Tabor in Carolina and John Bonamego in Detroit.
The Seahawks got game-changing performances on special teams during the playoff run: a kickoff return for a touchdown in the NFC Divisional Round, a recovered fumble on a punt return in the NFC Championship Game and excellent performances from Myers and Dickson during the Super Bowl.
The Packers are looking for a new special teams coordinator after Rich Bisaccia unexpectedly stepped down earlier this month. While the team entered the coaching cycle late, Brian Gutekunst said he was “excited” about the group of candidates being interviewed by the Packers following Bisaccia’s departure.
