OSHKOSH – Residents are being warned of the potential for frostbite this weekend, with temperatures dropping to as low as 40 degrees below zero amid dangerously frigid winds and near Arctic conditions.
An extreme cold watch is in place for Oshkosh and portions of central and northeast Wisconsin as bitterly cold winds are expected to blow through the area from Thursday night through Saturday morning.
There’s a chance for a couple light snow flurries Jan. 22 before the skies remain generally clear for most of the weekend.
Temperatures should drop into single digits Wednesday night before reaching a high of 10 below zero Thursday morning.
Winds are expected to reach around 24 mph during the day, resulting in a windchill factor around 35 below to 40 below for most of the day Thursday.
Friday’s temperatures will remain mostly below zero with a daytime high of 9 below and a low of around 19 below at night.
Saturday will be mostly cold and sunny before temperatures rise above zero sometime in the afternoon.
Winds are expected to pick up again Saturday night before the cold winds leave the area Sunday morning. There’s a low chance of snow on Sunday, with a high of around 7.
Residents are advised to remain inside as much as possible and wear several layers, including a hat, face mask and gloves when going outside. Pets should be kept indoors as much as possible.
