Recycling Center Main Office hours change April 4 for compost sales and electronics recycling
Starting Saturday, April 4, the Recycling Center Main Office will be open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
Residents can visit the office during those hours to purchase compost products or recycle electronics.
Both compost sites and the Main Office are closed Sundays and holidays.
Material rules remain in effect; permits required for contractors
County officials also reminded users that certain materials are not accepted at the compost sites, including ashes; treated or untreated lumber; oversized branches; logs, stumps, animal waste, kitchen waste; sod with soil attached; sand, soil, gravel, rocks or concrete; construction and demolition waste; and trash or plastic bags.
Accepted materials include brush, branches and Christmas trees under 6 inches in diameter and 5 feet long; leaves; grass and lawn clippings; garden waste such as pumpkins, fruit and vegetables; woodchips and sawdust from untreated wood; flowers and plants; weeds; and sod with the soil removed.
Contractors using the Basswood and Woodland compost sites must obtain and display a permit.
Placing materials outside designated areas — or placing non-accepted items in designated areas — is considered illegal dumping and may be subject to fines.
