New bakeries, coffee shops and more open north of Milwaukee

An Asian French bakery, a coffee stand, a bookseller, a custard eatery, a full restaurant and a sourdough bakery have recently opened in the communities north of Milwaukee.

MochiUnni in Menomonee Falls

MochiUnni, an Asian-French bakery in downtown Menomonee Falls, opened April 18. It’s in the former location of Gather Bakehouse at N89 W16750 Appleton Ave.

This eatery features coconut, pandan (a tropical plant that produces a sweet, vanilla-like aroma) and ube (similar to sweet potato and a purple yam) as its cultural dessert flavors. It sells a variety of boba tea flavors, Asian sweet bread and pastries and mochi doughnuts. It also has a build-your-own boba tea bar.

MochiUnni is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. It’s closed on Monday.

Scooter’s Coffee in Sussex

Scooter’s Coffee, which has a drive-through, walk-up and small outdoor seating area, opened in Sussex on April 20.

Scooter’s Coffee is located at the southwest corner of Business Drive and Highway 164 at N54 W25047 Business Drive. It features drinks that include iced berry lavender matcha, iced honeycomb latte, iced strawberry shortcake latte, strawberry horizon sparkling soda, orange velvet sparkling float and a peanut butter power smoothie.

Food items include southwest steak omelet bits, a sugar cookie sandwich, bacon sliders and mini chocolate chip cookies.

 Scooter’s Coffee’s hours are 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

The Book Nook in Hartford

The Book Nook opened April 11 at the Local Collective (a business with multiple vendors) in Hartford, 10 S. Main St.  It sells gently used romance and general fiction books.

Its hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. It is closed on Monday.

Sweet Dreams in Hartford

Sweet Dreams opened a Hartford location on April 17. It features jumbo burgers, dogs, gyros, sandwiches, fries, frozen custard, shakes and malts.

It’s open at the former Mickey’s Fresh Frozen Custard site at 675 Grand Ave.

Sweet Dreams has a Hartland location that’s been open for more than 30 years at 540 Hartbrook Drive. It also has plans to open a Menomonee Falls location in the former Pop’s Custard building in Menomonee Falls, N87 W16459 Appleton Ave.

The Forge in Richfield

The Forge, a restaurant that has a room for private events, opened April 3 in Richfield at 2102 Highway 164.

Menu items include corned beef & beer cheese stack, mandarin teriyaki chicken salad, Pacific BBQ tacos, walleye tacos, moraine pork schnitzel, pizza, Reuben sandwiches and a Friday fish fry.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Lilla + Rose – Sourdough Bakery in Kewaskum

Lilla + Rose – Sourdough Bakery opened April 11 at 1523 Fond du Lac Ave. in Kewaskum.

It features sourdough breads – plain and flavored, sweet rolls and knots, cookies, pretzel bites, scones, shortbread sticks and brownies.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. It is closed Sunday through Wednesday.
