More than half of Wisconsin’s counties will be under freeze warnings overnight between Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, according to the National Weather Service.
As of Friday morning, the weather service has issued warnings for at least 44 Wisconsin counties between midnight Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.
The impacted counties include Ozaukee, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha, Adams, Clark, Juneau, Taylor, Richland, Vernon, Jackson, Monroe, Trempealeau, Crawford, Grant, Buffalo, La Crosse, Columbia, Green Lake, Marquette, Sauk, Fond du Lac, Dane, Green, Iowa, Lafayette, Rock, Dodge, Jefferson, Sheboygan, Marathon, Portage, Waushara, Wood, Calumet, Manitowoc, Winnebago, Brown, Door, Kewaunee, Outagamie, Shawano, and Waupaca counties.
In some cases, subfreezing temperatures as low as 23 to 30 degrees are expected. Residents should take steps now to protect sensitive plants, NWS says.
“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” NWS says.
