Milwaukee has a pothole problem. Fill them with native plants. | Letter

I have been following all the problems with Milwaukee city traffic; speeding, road rage, accidents, etc. and the traffic calming measures implemented by the City of Milwaukee. But currently there is a new problem: an unbelievable number of huge potholes that are causing serious vehicular damage and accidents.

Well, fear not, I have a proposal that is effective and cheap. Don’t fix them. Fill them with dirt and plant native plants, shrubs and bushes. This will create a natural drainage system. Add a protected species worm, slug or insect. Use volunteers from eco warrior groups to perform this. You now have a wildlife protected sanctuary, protected by DNR. If a car impacts one of these, there will be a fine. Milwaukee will not be responsible for vehicular damage. You don’t need expensive speed bumps, curb extensions, concrete barriers, orange barrels or pylons. This approach will clearly keep cars off our city streets. Problem solved.

Obviously, this will contribute to the economic exodus, but that’s another topic. BTW I have other modest proposals for pedestrian crossings, bike lanes, road rage, road takeovers, etc. and will present them later.
