Marquette’s Nigel James Jr. named to all-Big East freshman team

The accolades for Nigel James Jr.’s freshman season with the Marquette men’s basketball team are starting to roll in.

James was a unanimous pick to the all-Big East freshman team on March 8, and was also selected to the all-league third team.

James averaged 16.4 points, 4.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game for the Golden Eagles, who will be the seventh seed and face 10th-seeded Xavier in the Big East tournament.

The Big East will announce its freshman of the year on March 11 in New York.

MU senior Chase Ross, who averaged 2.3 steals per game, was selected to the Big East’s inaugural all-defensive team.
