Hundreds of buzzing drones will dance around the sky above Milwaukee the night of July 3 as the city’s drone show returns for another year.
Milwaukee County officials have said the drone show is replacing fireworks because it’s safer, less costly and better for the environment.
Here’s what you need to know if you’re planning to go to the drone show.
When and where is Milwaukee’s drone show?
The drone show is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. July 3 at McKinley Beach. The vendors will open starting at 3 p.m.
Food includes Flips Donuts, Special Events Foods, Bartolotta, Roundhouse Beer Garden and more. Non-food entertainment includes face painting and bounce houses.
The Mitchell Parks Domes, Wehr Nature Center and the Boerner Botanical Gardens will have activities. There will also be bounce houses, face painting and live entertainment before the show starts.
How long is the drone show?
The show lasts 45 minutes and features 900 drones, including new pyrotechnic drones. The event will wrap up by about 10:30 p.m. The show has three waves of drones, with each wave lasting 15 minutes.
How will parking work?
Reserved parking is $28 at McKinley Marina. There will be first-come, first-served parking available for $20 at the Coast Guard Station lot and McKinley Tennis Courts starting at 2 p.m.
The county will close Lincoln Memorial Drive when parking lots are full and reopen it after the show.
What if I want to see fireworks?
Firework shows are planned in some Milwaukee suburbs and other nearby cities. Visit Milwaukee has a comprehensive guide available online.
