Florida football is firmly in contention for four-star quarterback Kingston Preyear, who is a top-five prospect in the state of Alabama and one of the best quarterbacks in the 2028 class. The 6-foot-3-inch, 195-pound Alexander City, Alabama, native narrowed his recruitment to Florida, Alabama and Vanderbilt according to the most recent updates from Roundtable.
During his sophomore season, the blue-chip QB starred for the Wildcats after transferring from Montgomery Catholic, where he won a 5A state title as a freshman. During a 12-2 season, Preyear threw for 3,026 yards and 34 touchdowns, completing over 60% of his passes. The dual-threat athlete also racked up 518 rushing yards on 94 attempts. His performance helped guide Benjamin Russell to a 6A-region championship and a spot in the AHSAA Class 6A state semifinals.
Preyear’s cutdown opens the door for yet another high-leverage SEC recruiting battle for Jon Sumrall. The Gators inclusion denotes Sumrall’s impact since joining UF in October of last year. During this time, the Gators have already secured a blue-chip commitment from four-star QB Davin Davidson out of Cardinal Mooney High School in Sarasota, Florida. Davidson is also regarded as one of the top QB prospects in his class. Florida quarterback coach Ryan O’Hara views Preyear as a player with the same upside and fit in Florida’s future plans.
The top 100 recruit has yet to announce a commitment date.
Kingston Preyear’s recruiting summary
Preyear is ranked No. 44 overall and No. 4 at his position according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 industry rankings have him at Nos. 56 and No. 4, respectively. The No. 3 player in the state of Alabama has 23 total offers, among them other SEC programs, including Alabama, Georgia and LSU.
