MANITOWOC – The Aug. 11 primary election set several statewide and regional matchups Manitowoc County voters will see on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Unofficial results posted by Manitowoc County show the county’s vote totals in races for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, U.S. House District 6, Wisconsin Senate District 1 and several Assembly seats.
Manitowoc County’s unofficial election night results were posted by the county clerk’s office. Voter turnout was not listed in the results document available online as of Aug. 12.
Here’s what to know about how Manitowoc County voted and what races will be on the fall ballot.
Who won the Democratic primary for governor?
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley won Wisconsin’s Democratic primary for governor in what the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel described as both a stunning upset and an unusual comeback. Crowley narrowly defeated state Rep. Francesca Hong after briefly suspending his campaign in July, then reentering the race with the backing of Democratic Gov. Tony Evers.
Crowley also led the Democratic primary in Manitowoc County with 3,479 votes, followed by Hong with 2,626 votes, Joel Brennan with 632 votes, Kelda Roys with 488 votes, Mandela Barnes with 326 votes, Sara Rodriguez with 321 votes and Missy Hughes with 31 votes, according to unofficial county results.
Who won the Republican primary for governor?
Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany won the Republican primary statewide and easily carried Manitowoc County with 7,413 votes. Andy Manske had 260 votes in Manitowoc County, according to unofficial county results.
Tiffany and Crowley will face each other Nov. 3 in the race to succeed Evers, who is not seeking another term.
Who was leading the U.S. House District 6 Democratic primary?
Brad Smith held a narrow districtwide lead over Amanda Bell in the Democratic primary for U.S. House District 6, according to unofficial results. Bell, however, carried Manitowoc County, where she led Smith 4,161 votes to 2,986 votes, according to unofficial county results.
If Smith’s lead holds, he would advance to face Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, Independent candidates Elizabeth Anne Fitzgibbon and Mike Thurow, and Wisconsin Green candidate Mathew Arndt on Nov. 3.
Who won the Republican primary for Wisconsin Senate District 1?
Nic Cravillion won the Republican primary for Wisconsin Senate District 1 districtwide, according to unofficial results. Decision Desk HQ results showed Cravillion leading the four-candidate field with 8,281 votes, followed by Barbara Bittner with 5,109 votes, Katie Baney with 4,461 votes and Jacob VandenPlas with 2,620 votes, with more than 95% of votes reported.
In Manitowoc County, VandenPlas led the race with 858 votes, followed by Baney with 722 votes, Cravillion with 416 votes and Bittner with 239 votes, according to unofficial county results. The district covers parts of Manitowoc, Brown, Calumet, Kewaunee and Door counties. Cravillion will face Independent candidate Mark Beckaer in November.
What other races will Manitowoc County voters see Nov. 3?
This fall, voters will see statewide races for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state and state treasurer, along with congressional and state legislative races that vary by district.
The Manitowoc County ballot also includes Wisconsin Senate District 9, where Republican Amy Binsfield is running against Independent candidate Christian Ellis.
In Wisconsin Assembly District 2, Republican incumbent Shae Sortwell will face Democrat Alicia Saunders. In Assembly District 3, Republican incumbent Ron Tusler is running unopposed.
In Assembly District 25, Republican incumbent Paul Tittl will face Democrat Chris Able. In Assembly District 27, Republican incumbent Lindee Rae Brill is running unopposed.
When are the election deadlines?
The deadline to register to vote by mail or online for the Nov. 3 election is Oct. 14, though voters can register at their municipal clerk’s office by Oct. 30 or at their polling place on Election Day.
Valid proof of residence documents needed for registration include a driver’s license, utility bill or bank statement.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Oct. 29. Ballots must be received by municipal clerks no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Early in-person absentee voting is permitted to start as early as Oct. 20. On Election Day, polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 3.
