Free Two Rivers concert and Manitowoc zoo walk set for July 18

MANITOWOC – The latest Manitowoc County news briefs include a Lincoln Park Zoo walk tied to a new aviary exhibit, a free Two Rivers concert celebrating the Schmitt Brothers’ barbershop legacy, League of Women Voters updates on housing and voter outreach, and a new director for the Badger Belles chorus.

Lincoln Park Zoo walk celebrates new Coastal Wetland Aviary exhibit

Lincoln Park Zoological Society will host Zoo Stomp, a 2-mile fun walk Saturday, July 18, to celebrate the grand opening of the Coastal Wetland Aviary at Lincoln Park Zoo.

Check-in is 8 to 9 a.m. at the zoo’s Reed Avenue entrance. The walk will start and finish at the zoo’s main entrance and wind through the aviary, zoo, Lincoln Park and beyond.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $25 for a family of four, with same-day registration available. Proceeds support zoo improvements. Contact Andy Janicki at lpzscoordinator@gmail.com or 920-686-6505.

Free Two Rivers concert marks Schmitt Brothers barbershop quartet anniversary

A free barbershop concert Saturday, July 18, in Two Rivers will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Schmitt Brothers’ international championship.

The family-friendly event runs 6 to 8 p.m. at the Schmitt Brothers Stage in Central Park. In case of rain, it will move to the Community House gym, 1720 W. Park St.

The Clipper City Chordsmen will host the concert, which features several barbershop groups. Food and drink specials also are planned nearby. For more information, visit schmittbrothersquartet.com.

League of Women Voters of Manitowoc County shares board, housing and voter updates

The League of Women Voters of Manitowoc County has elected its 2026-27 board and released updates on local housing, environmental and voter service work.

Board members elected at the group’s annual meeting in May are Peggy Armstrong, Jennifer Balma, Virginia Finnel, Annette Kaminsky, Catherin Leone, Meredith Sauer, Rebecca Scherer, Arah Schmidt, Marilyn Sontag and Suzanne Zipperer.

The league also is promoting a 6 p.m. Monday, July 20, public information session on the impact of school vouchers at the Two Rivers Common Council chambers, 1717 E. Park St. The event is open to the public but is not sponsored by the league.

The league’s Environmental Committee is monitoring county work on data center ordinances after local townships approved an 18-month moratorium on new data center permits. The group plans to continue public education and outreach.

The Workforce Affordable Housing Committee released a study recommending a housing authority or advocate, centralized housing resources and a fall 2026 public forum with WHEDA CEO Elmer Moore.

Voter Services members recently visited Mishicot, Two Rivers, Lincoln and Kiel high schools to register seniors to vote and are available to staff information tables at community events.

Badger Belles barbershop chorus names Jennifer Kasten as new director

The Badger Belles, a new all-women barbershop chorus in Manitowoc County, has named Jennifer Kasten as its musical director.

Kasten, a vocal performer and teacher with more than 30 years of experience teaching private voice lessons, has performed with regional opera companies, symphonies and local groups including the Lakeshore Big Band and Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra.

The chorus rehearses from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at Grow It Forward, 1501 Marshall St., Manitowoc. Interested women of any age may attend. For more information, email info@clippercitychordsmen.org.
