Former Glendale clerk convicted, sentenced for unapproved spending

Glendale’s former city clerk was convicted, placed on probation and ordered to pay restitution after spending around $10,400 on unapproved purchases in 2025.

In August of 2025, Megan Humitz was removed from her role as clerk after a city hearing unearthed the scope of the unauthorized spending, which included at least 128 purchases of food, office supplies, holiday decorations, professional development trainings and gifts over eight months. Some of those items were shipped to her home. The lack of reporting and prior approvals were in violation of city codes and employee handbooks, officials said.

Afterwards, the city contacted law enforcement to investigate further.

Four months later, the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office filed a criminal complaint in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Dec. 22, 2025, charging Humitz with attempted misconduct/office-act/inconsistent duty, a class A misdemeanor that can come with a fine of up to $10,000 and a prison sentence of up to nine months, according to the complaint.

Humitz initially pleaded not guilty on Jan. 27, but then pleaded no contest at a plea and sentencing hearing on May 11, according to court records.

That same day, Judge Marisabel Cabrera sentenced Humitz to serve 90 days in Milwaukee County’s Community Reintegration Center but stayed the jail time and placed her on 12 months of probation with several conditions:

Humitz will need to complete 100 hours of community service, undergo a mental health assessment and follow any recommended treatment, pay restitution of about $4,646 to the City of Glendale and provide a DNA sample.

On May 12, Humitz’s counsel filed a notice preserving her right to consider an appeal, according to court records.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reached out to Humitz’s attorney and the City of Glendale on May 19, but did not immediately hear back.
