FOND DU LAC – The City of Fond du Lac Department of Public Works is asking residents to help prevent localized street flooding after this week’s historic winter storm left many stormwater inlets buried.
With above-average temperatures forecast by the National Weather Service this weekend, rapid snowmelt could overwhelm blocked drains and send water across roadways.
The city said in a news release March 20 that crews are working to clear inlets, but officials said they may not be able to respond immediately to every report while addressing multiple locations.
Residents are encouraged to check storm drains in their neighborhoods and safely remove snow and ice from around inlet openings to reduce backups.
The city said clearing drains can improve road passability, support emergency response and help prevent damage to private property.
Fond du Lac forecast: Mild Saturday, cooler Sunday, then a midweek warm-up
The National Weather Service forecast says Fond du Lac will stay mostly cloudy Friday with highs in the upper 40s, then slip to the mid 30s Friday night as winds turn southerly after midnight.
Saturday brings the weekend’s best weather — partly sunny and mild with highs in the 60s — before clouds increase Saturday night with a 20% chance of light rain.
Sunday turns colder, cloudy and breezy, with a 30% morning rain chance and highs in the lower 40s.
Cooler 40s persist Monday, near 50 Tuesday, with a slight wintry mix possible Wednesday.
