FOND DU LAC – A 45-year-old Fond du Lac man is in custody after what police said was a domestic violence incident at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Primrose Lane Saturday night, Oct. 25.
Police responded to the complex around 7:30 p.m. for the report of a domestic violence incident taking place in the parking lot. When they arrived, they found a 43-year-old woman suspected to have been physically assaulted by her 45-year-old husband.
A police news release said witnesses reported the man fled back into his apartment, and shortly thereafter, they heard what they thought was a single gunshot from inside the residence.
Officers moved the woman to a safe location and issued a precautionary shelter-in-place order for nearby residents. They established a perimeter and evacuated several neighboring apartments as officers worked to secure the scene and ensure public safety.
Police SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams were then activated, along with support from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team. Armored rescue vehicles, K-9 units, and specialized drone and robot resources from Technology Response Groups were also deployed.
Police said the situation was safely resolved later that evening and the suspect was taken into custody around 10:26 p.m. without further incident.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to conduct interviews and gather evidence, police said. No further information was immediately released.
