SHEBOYGAN – Online job postings for entry-level cooks and cashiers created buzz earlier this month that Chick-fil-A could be coming to Sheboygan.
Community members seeing a handful of job postings from a third-party aggregator site called “Vacant Listings Jobs,” which have since been taken down, speculated about what it could mean.
Is a Chick-fil-A coming to Sheboygan or the town of Sheboygan in the former Hardee’s? Are these postings for a forthcoming Chick-fil-A in Grafton? Is the Chick-fil-A Tri State Food Truck, which serves Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa, coming to the area? Were these “ghost jobs” posted to assess the local labor market?
Others were certain it was a scam that could put people at risk of data harvesting if they clicked apply and shared personal information.
Chick-fil-A says it has no Sheboygan location to confirm
Sheboygan Mayor Ryan Sorenson said on social media June 12 the city hadn’t heard from Chick-fil-A or knew of any plans, but the job postings appeared to show Chick-fil-A was hiring for a Sheboygan location.
But Chick-fil-A didn’t make those job postings, and it doesn’t sound like it’s opening a restaurant in Sheboygan anytime soon.
“We are always evaluating potential new locations in the hopes of serving existing and new guests great food with remarkable service,” Chick-fil-A, Inc., said in a statement. “While we hope to serve the Sheboygan community in the future, we do not currently have any locations to confirm.”
Where Chick-fil-A already has Wisconsin restaurants
Other Wisconsin Chick-fil-As are Appleton, Green Bay, Oshkosh and Eau Claire. Rib Mountain got a Chick-fil-A earlier this year, and Grafton’s could open early next year.
How to spot a job posting scam
How can you tell whether a job posting is illegitimate or potentially a scam? According to Indeed, warning signs include requests for confidential information, such as bank information or a Social Security number; missing contact information for the employer or company; vague job requirements; and required payment to apply.
