Fox Valley Technical College students can now transfer more college credits to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, according to an agreement signed by representatives from all three schools June 17 at FVTC.
FVTC president Chris Matheny signed the articulation agreement alongside current UW-Stevens Point chancellor Thomas Gibson, who has been named chancellor of UW-Milwaukee. Gibson represented both UW schools at the signing.
This agreement allows FVTC students who earn a university transfer associate degree to “seamlessly” transfer their credits to the two UW schools and enroll as juniors, according to both Matheny and Gibson. The agreement is similar to one FVTC signed with Ripon College earlier this year.
The agreement with UW-Milwaukee also goes a step further. According to a press release from FVTC, all FVTC associate degree holders from any graduation year will be guaranteed admission and transfer of at least 60 credits to UW-Milwaukee.
Agreement means ‘accessible and affordable pathways’ to earn degree
Matheny said during a press conference that this agreement means “accessible and affordable pathways” to college for area students.
In following remarks, Gibson said that the school was “excited to formalize” a relationship between the two UW schools and FVTC, which he said was “essential” for Wisconsin’s future economic development.
Suzanne Boyd, UW-Milwaukee University Centers director and associate professor, told the Appleton Post-Crescent that she sees demographics shifting toward more non-traditional secondary students and that this agreement benefits them, too.
“In this time of difficulty for higher education,” Boyd added, “we want to collaborate, not compete.”
For the 2025-26 school year, FVTC’s tuition is about $153 per credit for Wisconsin residents, according to the school website. Meanwhile, UW-Stevens Point’s per-credit fee for full-time Wisconsin resident undergraduates is about $307; UW-Milwaukee’s is about $366.
Matheny said during the conference that 414 students are currently enrolled in FVTC’s university transfer degree program. FVTC also recently opened up that program to high school students through the Academies program.
Ripon College, Lakeland University, Marian University, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh also have similar articulation agreements with FVTC’s university transfer degree. Meanwhile, other colleges and UW campuses also allow some technical associate’s degrees from FVTC to transfer into certain four-year degree programs.
