Florida gas prices jump 14 cents overnight, top $4 a gallon

Yesterday’s good news is today’s sticker shock for Florida residents.

The average price of gas jumped 14 cents between April 27 and April 28 in Florida.

On April 27, we reported the national average for the price of gas had been slowly climbing, while Florida motorists were seeing some good news at the pump, with prices slowly dropping.

Just over a week after the average price of gas in Florida dropped below $4 a gallon, the price April 28 jumped to $4.084.

The national average also jumped overnight, but not as drastically as the Florida’s price increase, according to AAA. The national average for a gallon of gas was $4.111 on April 27 and $4.176 April 28.

Slightly less than a month ago, on March 31, Florida motorists saw the average price of gas top $4 a gallon for the first time since 2022. It dropped below $4 on April 20 before jumping above that point again on April 28.

Here’s what you should know.

Will gas prices drop below $3 a gallon soon?

Don’t count on it.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright told CNN April 19 the price of gas may not drop below $3 a gallon until 2027.

In Florida, the average price for a gallon of gas was $3.941 on April 27, down slightly from the average of $3.990 a week ago, on April 20.

By early April 28, one day later, the price had jumped 14 cents to $4.084, according to AAA.

The highest price in Florida was Monroe County, where the average price was $4.326 on April 28.

The highest gas prices in Florida April 28 was Monroe County, where motorists will see an average price of $4.326, as of April 28. Prices fluctuate daily.

The lowest price in the state was $3.687 in Bay County in the Panhandle.

National gas prices climbing, but not as much as Florida

The national average for a gallon of gas also jumped between April 27 and April 28, although not as much as in Florida, according to AAA.

The national average jumped 6 cents overnight, from $4.111 to $4.176 on April 28, compared to Florida’s 14-cent jump.

California continues to pay the most for gas in the U.S., with the average price at $5.965 on April 28.

When was the last time Florida saw gas prices over $4 a gallon?

The last time a gallon of regular was over $4 a gallon in Florida was in 2022, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

At least until they topped that figure March 31, 2026, and then again April 28.
