FOND DU LAC – One household is displaced after a fire at the Fond du Lac Townhomes on Scott Street early May 1, according to Fond du Lac Fire Rescue.
The department responded at about 12:56 a.m. to one of the units, finding moderate smoke conditions. Crews searched the interior and found heavy smoke on the second floor with fire in a second-floor bedroom, but the home was clear of occupants.
Fire Rescue extinguished the fire within 15 minutes, then remained on scene to clear smoke and check for hot spots. Paramedics evaluated one child and one woman on scene before transporting both to a local hospital.
Residents of surrounding townhomes evacuated during the incident and were later permitted to return to their homes after fire crews completed ventilation and verified safe air quality.
However, the affected townhome is deemed uninhabitable because of fire damage on the second floor, as well as water and heavy smoke damage throughout the home.
While the fire seemed to have originated from the second-floor bedroom, the exact cause and origin are still under investigation.
The Fond du Lac Police Department and Alliant Energy assisted at the scene.
