Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Kyle Harrison threw off a mound July 18 and said he feels great physically, with the expectation that his stay on the injured list won’t linger much beyond the minimum 15-day stay.
Harrison said before the July 19 game against the Miami Marlins that he’ll throw off the mound again July 21, two days before he’s eligible to return from the injured list. The only question is whether he’ll first head out on a rehab assignment. He last pitched July 8 in St. Louis, leaving the game after 70 pitches, and then was placed on the injured list with what was termed forearm discomfort, though he indicated the soreness was around his elbow.
Harrison said he doesn’t feel the soreness anymore and the break has been kind for his body.
“I’m getting my feet underneath me,” he said. “It’s a good spot to be in. I think it gives me a chance mentally to check out a little bit and then re-lock back in. The biggest thing was the break on the body, getting your legs underneath you and being able to move quick again. I think I was kind of moving slow at the end of the [first half] and feel like I got my feet underneath me [now].”
Harrison has been a force for the Brewers in the first half of the season, posting an ERA below 2.00 through his first start of June. He rebounded to throw six shutout innings after a rare blow-up outing in Las Vegas on June 8, but in his last three starts, he has an ERA of 6.17 and hasn’t gotten past the fifth inning.
Harrison’s fellow left-hander DL Hall was also scheduled to throw a rehab assignment for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on July 19.
In one other injury note, second baseman Brice Turang was back in the lineup after getting scratched from the July 18 start with a sore foot.
