Just over 24 hours remain until the Wisconsin Badgers and Maryland Terrapins kick off from Camp Randall Stadium in each team’s first Big Ten contest of the 2025 season.
Wisconsin is 2-1 entering the matchup after a crushing Week 3 loss to Alabama. While the team held strong in the defensive trenches, winning the rushing battle (92 yards to 72), it allowed Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson to have a career day (24/29 passing for 382 yards and four touchdowns). The contest further emphasizes Wisconsin’s mixed results to start the year. On one hand, the team steamrolled both Miami (Ohio) and Middle Tennessee in the second half of the respective games. On the other hand, it led those teams by only three and four points at halftime, respectively, then trailed Alabama by 21 at the halftime break.
The Badgers need to deliver their first complete performance of the year when the Terrapins come to town. While Maryland is among the lower-ranked teams in the conference, its stock is on the rise after a 3-0 start to the year.
With kickoff fast approaching, here are score predictions from the entire Badgers Wire staff.
Ben’s prediction
Wisconsin badly needs a statement performance on both sides of the football. Its defense should fare well against the Maryland offense, even with the emergence of freshman quarterback Malik Washington. However, it’s hard to see the Badger offense suddenly reaching its stride if quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. remains sidelined. Backup Danny O’Neil struggled Saturday in his first action against a Power Four opponent.
The Badgers will win comfortably if their offensive line suddenly rounds into form and leads a strong rushing attack. Otherwise, the team could be tested yet again.
Score: Wisconsin 25, Maryland 23
Mike’s prediction
Unlike the Badgers, the Maryland Terrapins opened their season with three straight wins to establish early momentum ahead of the program’s Big Ten slate. Freshman quarterback Malik Washington has played well, accounting for nearly 800 yards and seven total touchdowns with a passer rating of 144.7. The defenses he has carved up, however, have been subpar. The Badgers’ unit poses a unique challenge up front, and Washington could struggle in his first time suiting up in a legitimate road environment. Given UW’s upcoming gauntlet of a schedule, the Week 4 test is somewhat of a must-win. Fickell’s group will apply the pressure to secure a 24-14 victory at home.
Score: Wisconsin 24, Maryland 14
Connor’s prediction
Wisconsin needs a bounce-back win to regroup and get ready for the rest of its conference schedule. I think the Badgers get it done against Maryland, regardless of who starts at quarterback. Expect a big game from wideouts Jayden Ballard and Vinny Anthony.
Score: Wisconsin 28, Maryland 14
