Vinny Anthony landed his first NFL opportunity with a familiar connection, signing with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent after finishing a four-year career at Wisconsin.
Anthony’s path to Atlanta lined up with a key Badgers connection: former Wisconsin wide receivers coach Jordan Reid now works with the Falcons. That coaching connection gave Anthony a natural landing spot as he tries to earn a roster job in a wide-open post-draft competition. Anthony spent four seasons in Madison and developed inside a program that has steadily pushed more of its pass-catchers into NFL camps in recent years.
For Anthony, the undrafted free agent route means he will have to make his case quickly on special teams and in the details, including route precision, assignments, and reliability, in a setting where reps come fast and mistakes linger. The Falcons will give Anthony a clean slate and an immediate chance to show he belongs.
Reid’s presence should speed up the learning curve, even as Anthony adjusts to a new playbook and a new standard of week-to-week execution. Wisconsin fans now have another name to track through rookie minicamp and into training camp, where Anthony will try to turn that Badgers-Falcons connection into a spot on the 53-man roster or a place on the practice squad.
