A familiar face to local TV news viewers in Green Bay and the Fox Valley is sliding into a new role.
Stacy Engebretson is joining WFRV-TV, Channel 5, to co-anchor the 5, 6 and 6:30 p.m. broadcasts of “Local 5 News” alongside longtime evening anchor Tom Zalaski. Their first newscast together will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 13.
She replaces Michele McCormack, who left the station in May after more than four years as an anchor.
Engebretson has 23 years of experience in the Green Bay-area market, including 20 years at WGBA-TV (NBC 26), where she worked as an anchor and reporter and then as an assistant news director as well. She signed off from the station in 2020 and became the assistant news director at local ABC affiliate WBAY-TV in June 2022 and left in September.
She is originally from Bloomington, Minnesota, and is a graduate of St. Cloud State University. She started her television career in Alexandria, Minnesota, before moving on to WAOW-TV in Wausau a year later.
“I am thrilled to join the talented, hardworking Local 5 News team and continue serving Northeast Wisconsin through compelling local journalism,” Engebretson said in a news release. “It is more important than ever to dig for the truth, demand accountability and inform viewers on the issues that matter most to you so you can make informed decisions.”
In addition to co-anchoring with Zalaski, who has been at WFRV since 1999, Engebretson will host a half-hour program on WFRV+, a 24-hour streaming service that includes exclusive programs, breaking news, in-depth coverage and browsable archives.
She plans to continue volunteering with community organizations as she has done throughout her career and to emcee local events.
